Berkeley Lab In the News, Week of June 12, 2016

Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time.

A June 17 EnergyWire story looked at an effort by Evan Mills and his son to quantify and reduce energy consumption from video gaming. Their story was first told in a Lab news release.

A June 17 ClimateWire story on the consequences of global warming quoted Charles Koven.

A June 16 Technology Review story looked at research efforts by the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis and mentioned Frances Houle.

A June 16 Quartz story on efforts to use silicon anodes in EVs quoted Robert Kostecki.

A June 16 Chemistry World story, based on a Lab news release, featured work on bionic enzymes led by John HartwigGenetic Engineering & Biotechnology News and a Nature podcast also covered the work.

A June 15 EE Times story highlighted the release of data and two new apps from the Lab’s Materials Project and quoted Kristin PerssonInsideHPC and Agri-Pulse.com also ran similar stories based on a Lab news release.

A June 14 Scientific American story on extreme weather quoted Dáithí 
Stone.

A June 14 Yahoo News story, based on a Lab news release, highlighted an effort to use an array of mini robots to search for distant galaxies and quoted Parker Fagrelius. The project was widely covered including by the Daily Mail, NDTV, Economic Times, The Register, Daily Cal, Business Standard, Science World and many others.

A June 14 Becker’s Hospital Review story looked at the benefits of running, work led by Paul Williams. The website FiveThirtyEight.com also covered the work and that story was then syndicated to numerous other news outlets.

A June 14 GreenBiz.com story on designing cities for autonomous vehicles cited work by Jeff Greenblatt.

A June 13 Berkeleyside.com story on a vigil for the victims in Orlando noted the participation of Lab employees.

A June 11 Xinhua News story featured work by Chris Chang showing copper’s benefits in weight loss. The Epoch Times, NDTV, and the Business Standard also covered his work, which first appeared in a Lab news release.
