Berkeley Lab In the News, Week of August 17, 2014


Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time.

An August 22 Live Science story highlighted work co-led by the Lab’s Oliver Gessner which helps give a better understanding of quantum vortices within liquid helium.

An August 22 story on The Energy Collective covered a new Lab-led report on wind power and quoted the Lab’s Ryan Wiser. CleanEnergy and FierceEnergy were some of the other outlets that also covered the report’s release.

An August 21 story in The Ecologist featured a recent report on fracking led by the Lab’s William Stringfellow.

An August 21 story in Today’s Facility Manager noted that the Lab’s Environmental Energy Technologies Division had won a Champion of Energy Award from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.

An August 19 San Francisco Chronicle story on the origins of meteorites quoted the Lab’s Kunihiko Nishiizumi.

An August 19 Contra Costa Times story looked at a new multi-lab effort to model climate change. HPC Wire and FCW.com also covered the announcement.

An August 18 KGO-TV Channel 7 story highlighted work at the Molecular Foundry and Advanced Light Source to improve computer chips. The story included interviews with Deirdre Olynick, Patrick Naulleau, and Paul Ashby.
