Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time.

An April 19 The Guardian story profiled the Lab’s George Smoot.

An April 18 San Jose Mercury News story noted the passing of former Lab director, Andy Sessler.

An April 18 San Francisco Chronicle story covered the announcement of new partners joining the Lab collaboration, CalCharge, and quoted the Lab’s Horst Simon and Venkat Srinivasan. The San Francisco Business Times and CleanTechnica also covered the announcement.

An April 17 Irish Independent story on the benefits of exercise cited work by the Lab’s Paul Williams.

An April 16 Scientific American story on nuclear power to fight climate change quoted the Lab’s Ryan Wiser.

An April 16 New York Times story on the Heartbleed computer bug quoted the Lab’s Vern Paxson, citing work he did at NERSC. IEEE Spectrum and Germany’s Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung also covered the work.

An April 16 Scientific American story highlighted work done at the ALS helping reveal high levels of arsenic in Chilean mummies. Live Science and Huffington Post also covered the research.

An April 16 National Journal noted the bestowing of the Lawrence Award on the Lab’s Adam Arkin. PhysOrg also covered the announcement.

An April 15 KQED story on how California trails Texas in wind power quoted the Lab’s Ryan Wiser.

An April 14 event kicking off research at the Lab’s FLEXLAB facility was covered by FedScoop.com, EnergyManagerToday and the Energy.gov website.

An April 14 E&E News story on programmable thermostats quoted the Lab’s Alan Meier and Ed Vine. Midwest Energy News also quoted Meier.

An April 14 BBC News story featured work by the Lab’s Anand Gopal, Samveg Saxena and Amol Phadke showing benefits of electric cars in India and China. The Clean Energy Ministerial also ran a story on their work.

An April 14 CCTV-China story featured collaborative work on an energy efficient building model in China led by the Lab’s Clean Energy Research Center’s Building Energy Efficiency group.

An April 14 PhysOrg.com story highlighted involvement by Lab researchers in the latest IPCC climate report.

The April issue of Symmetry included a story on things you didn’t know about particle accelerators and included the early work of E.O. Lawrence.
