The latest issue of Smithsonian magazine includes a look at efforts by the Lab’s Carl Haber to recover the first recording of Alexander Graham Bell’s voice. The work was covered extensively by ABC News, the Associated Press, CBS News, Washington Post, NBC News, the Daily Mail, International Business Times, PC Magazine, Wall Street Journal, UPI news and dozens of other news outlets.

An April 24 LiveScience story on extreme weather included a quote from the Lab’s Pardeep Pall.

An April 24 Contra Costa Times story covered a recent Berkeley Lab Science at the Theater event involving Bill Collins, Margaret Torn, Michael Wehner, Jeff Chambers, and UC Berkeley’s Max Auffhammer.

An April 23 NPR All Things Considered story featured the Lab’s Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis and included an interview with the Lab’s Heinz Frei and Miguel Modestino.

An April 23 National Geographic story on technologies to improve fuel efficiency in airplanes quoted the Lab’s Rob Ritchie.

An April 23 Physics World story on testing the quantum nature of photons noted the work of the Lab’s Philippe Eberhard.

An April 23 Slate story on seemingly contradictory reports surrounding walking vs. running cited recent work by the Lab’s Paul Williams.

An April 23 Nature story on carbon dioxide in rain forests quoted the Lab’s Jeff Chambers.

An April 22 Quartz.com story on the launch of the Berkeley Lab-affiliated “Battery University” quoted the Lab’s Venkat Srinivasan. Capitol Radio also covered the news.

An April 22 San Francisco Business Times story noted the installment of EV chargers at the Lab and quoted John Elliott.

On April 20, KCBS-AM ran a story on supercomputing, in particular NERSC’s Edison computer, and interviewed the Lab’s Richer Gerber. (no link)

The April 16 Huffington Post included a story cowritten by the Lab’s David Bailey on the randomness of pi.

An April 16 Daily Cal story featured the Lab’s Edison supercomputer and its potential role in future scientific breakthroughs. The story quoted the Lab’s David Bailey, Jon Bashor, and Kathy Yelick.

An April 16 San Francisco Business Journal story on new efforts to capture greenhouse gases noted the involvement of the Lab’s Berend Smit, Jihan Kim and Li-Chiang Lin.

An April 10 Chemistry World story noted the development of an artificial malaria drug by the Lab’s Jay Keasling. The San Francisco Business Times, Yahoo News, and many other outlets ran similar stories.

An April 10 Chicago Tribune story on lithium-ion batteries quoted the Lab’s Fred Schlachter. The story, originally from Reuters, also ran in The Economic Times and dozens of other news outlets.

An April 10 The Scientist story on cancer research quoted the Lab’s Mina Bissell from a recent presentation at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting.

An April 10 Yahoo News story on President Obama’s brain research initiative announcement noted the involvement of the Lab’s Jay Keasling and Lab Director Paul Alivisatos.

An April 8 New York Times story noted the Lab’s involvement in a new “battery university” and quoted the Lab’s Venkat Srinivasan and Doug Davenport. SustainableBusiness also covered the new effort.

The renewal announcement of JBEI was covered by the San Francisco Business Times, Yahoo News and Nanowerk.com, among others.

An April 4 CBS News story featured research by the Lab’s Paul Williams showing the benefits of walking. His work was extensively covered by NBC Today, WebMD, The Australian, The Daily Mail, The Guardian, Health Day, Times of India, Philadelphia Inquirer, Yahoo News and many others.

An April 4 Live Science story featured new computer modeling led by the Lab’s Dan Martin showing future Antarctica ice melt. The Inquisitr.com ran a similar story.

An April 3 Grist story highlighted the Lab’s cool surface research. Stories also appeared in Fast Co.exist, RTCC.org (quoting the Lab’s Art Rosenfeld and Mark Levine) and Better Roads. Several stories included a video with the Lab’s Ben Mandel.

An April 2 San Francisco Business Times story noted the Lab’s involvement in President Obama’s brain initiative announcement, including the White House attendance by Lab Director Paul Alivisatos and Jay Keasling. The Daily Cal, SciCast.com, and others also covered the announcement.
