Berkeley Lab In the News, Week of April 7, 2013


Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time.

An April 11 SmartPlanet story on smart thermostats quoted the Lab’s Alan Meier.

An April 11 EarthTechling story noted the Lab’s heavy involvement in helping create an energy efficient New York Times building.

An April 10 Chemistry World story noted the development of an artificial malaria drug by the Lab’s Jay Keasling. The San Francisco Business Times, Yahoo News, and many other outlets ran similar stories.

An April 10 Chicago Tribune story on lithium-ion batteries quoted the Lab’s Fred Schlachter. The story, originally from Reuters, also ran in The Economic Times and dozens of other news outlets.

An April 10 The Scientist story on cancer research quoted the Lab’s Mina Bissell from a recent presentation at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting.

An April 10 Yahoo News story on President Obama’s brain research initiative announcement noted the involvement of the Lab’s Jay Keasling and Lab Director Paul Alivisatos.

An April 8 New York Times story noted the Lab’s involvement in a new “battery university” and quoted the Lab’s Venkat Srinivasan and Doug Davenport. SustainableBusiness also covered the new effort.

An April 8 Men’s Journal story highlighted work by the Labs’ Paul Williams showing the benefits of walking. His work was also covered this past week by US News and World Report, several TV stations around the country, the New York Daily News and local Berkeley Patch, among others.

An April 8 Berkeley Patch story noted the recent renewal for JBEI. Energy Live also covered the news.

An April 6 EarthTechling story on smart windows technology mentioned work led by the Lab’s Delia Milliron.
