Berkeley Lab In the News, Week of Sept. 2, 2012


Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time.

A Sept. 7 West County Times story covered a meeting to discuss the science that may occur at the Lab’s proposed Richmond Bay Campus. Richmond Confidential and the San Francisco Business Times also ran stories.

The latest issue of Discover magazine includes a story on research showing how fungi contribute to clouds over the Amazon forest. Some of the work was done at the Advanced Light Source.

The latest issue of Scientific American includes a piece with the Lab’s Kristin Persson discussing what research she would conduct if she could live longer.

A Sept. 5 San Francisco Chronicle story on results from the Encode genome project noted the Lab’s and JGI’s involvement.

A Sept. 5 IGN News story featured the discovery of a rare supernova with help from the Lab and the Palomar Transient Factory.

A Sept. 4 San Francisco Chronicle story featured work by the Lab’s Andy Wyrobek showing a link between nutrition and fertility in older men.
