Berkeley Lab In the News, Week of May 13, 2012


Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time.

A May 18 EarthTechling story on efforts to improve the smart grid quoted the Lab’s David Watson.

A May 17 KGO-AM radio story covered a visit to the Lab by a group of Berkeley second graders as part of a computer class sponsored by the IT department. OverClockersClub.com also covered their trip.

Recent research led by the Lab’s Seung-Wuk Lee into using a virus to generate electricity received a tremendous amount of news coverage including KGO-TV Channel 7, BBC News, San Francisco Business Times, Wired, Cnet, The Atlantic, Science magazine, Mother Jones magazine, UPI news, ZDnet, Forbes, Popular Science, ABC News, and dozens of other TV stations, newspapers and websites.

A May 15 Photonics story covered research into the self-assembly of nanoparticles led by the Lab’s Ting Xu.

A May 14 India West story covered Ashok Gadgil’s winning the Lemelson-MIT Award for Global Innovation.
