Kitt Peak Scope to Get $100M Shot in the Arm

A $100 million international project called Big BOSS could breathe new life into an aging telescope on light-challenged Kitt Peak southwest of Tucson. A consortium led by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory wants to outfit the 4-meter Mayall Telescope with the world's most sophisticated spectrographs and use it to answer one of astronomy's grand challenges: explaining why the expansion of the universe is accelerating rather than slowing.
